SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY: ADVANCED (HDV-284064)
Course Description: Social Psychology explores social behavior and how this affects and is influenced by an individual’s personality, values, beliefs, and attitudes. Major topics are conformity, obedience, prejudice, intra-group behavior, group conflict, cognitive biases, aggression, and altruism. Understand the assumptions and values underpinning these perspectives and how such assumptions influence the ways in which social behavior is explained. Compare and contrast the major theoretical perspectives and learn how individual identities are related to collective identities (cultures, nations, etc.). Course assignments will aid in the developing an understanding of key social psychological concepts and offer opportunities to learn how these concepts are used to analyze social behavior. Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to Psychology or General Psychology. This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Social Sciences. NOTE: This course was previously offered as Social Psychology. Students who completed Social Psychology 284064, should not take Social Psychology: Advanced. This online course is offered through Online Learning.
