Course Description:


This course is a brief survey of some of the classical and contemporary social theories used in the social sciences. Using excerpts from original works, students will explore the works of Durkheim, Marx, and Weber as well as those who challenged classical theorist ideology. Approximately one half of the course focuses upon identity theories that extend the great conversations of social thought to contemporary society.

Knowledge and understanding of sociological and/or anthropological terms, principles, and concepts at an introductory level.
