TERRORISM AND HOMELAND SECURITY (CHS-264844)
Course Description: This survey course provides a comprehensive look into the complex issues surrounding terrorism and homeland security. It will explore the relationship between terrorism and homeland security, the origins and criminology of modern-day domestic and international terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and the impact of terrorism on national security policy. Additional examination will explore such areas as cyber terrorism, terrorism and the media, civil liberties and the bureaucracy of federal, state and local governments. Prerequisite skills and knowledge: The student should have an understanding of the structure and functions of the various parts of the criminal justice system and the relationship of federal, state and local criminal-justice agencies, such as might be learned in a course in Introduction to Criminal Justice. They should also be able to examine facts and problems, analyze issues, research remedies, apply theoretical concepts, examine alternatives and formulate and communicate solutions.
