This course serves as an introduction to the basic principles of physics, primarily in the domain of mechanics, the study of the motion of objects. The course presents physics concepts using an algebra-based framework. Themes to be explored will include: linear, two-dimensional, and rotational kinematics (motion); linear, two-dimensional, and rotational dynamics (force); models of energy and momentum; gravity; simple harmonic motion; waves and sound; fluids. This course includes a laboratory component. Prerequisites: comfort with algebra and trigonometry; Precalculus is preferred. NOTE: This course has a laboratory component which requires a lab kit that must be purchased from ESC's bookstore (http://www.esc.edu/bookstore/). Please order in time to allow for shipping before the start of the term. This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Natural Sciences.
