Description: Examine cultures throughout the world such as the Aymara Indians of the Bolivian Andes and the Asmats of New Guinea. Come to understand and appreciate the concept of culture as an adaptive mechanism which provides for the survival of humanity, and learn the basic procedures, concepts, and terms utilized by cultural anthropologists. Faces of Culture examines culture change, and provides a broad cross-cultural background against which to view American culture as well as contemporary social problems. This course meets the general education requirement in Social Sciences.

A required video component consisting of twenty-six half-hour programs featuring dramatic film footage from around the world is available from the Empire State College Bookstore.
