Description: Geographic information systems software provides a powerful tool for collecting, organizing and analyzing spatial information. Numerous activities in government and business, not to mention growing work in the social services and other areas, rely on spatial data. Students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts underlying the use of geographic information systems. The course approach will be hands-on activity-based. Topics include: maps and cartography, data structure, acquisition, integration and manipulation.

Note: students must be comfortable using microcomputer applications, and have the ability to install software. Students must have regular access to a computer on which they can install software.
