Description: This course will introduce students to methods of managing data to support the business activities of an enterprise. The focus will be on design, creation, and deployment of databases using a PC-based relational database application. The student will learn methods of storing and managing data to support the business activities of an enterprise. Topics include data modeling and SQL. Discussion of maintenance and basic database security will be included. A student project involving the design of a database application will be at the core of this course.

Prerequisites: Microcomputer Applications or equivalent. Also, availability of a computer with a current version of MS Access is required.

Important Note: this course was renamed effective the January 2008 term and was formerly known as Database Systems Development 1. Students who have successfully completed 273354, Database Systems Development 1, should not enroll in this course.
