Description: Build on foundation knowledge of computer information systems and examine in detail the activities involved in development of information systems. Includes the role of the modern systems analyst, overview of information system building blocks and system development, system analysis methods, and systems design and construction methods. Learning from this course can be applied to any organization -- private, public, or no-profit. It should provide both technical and non-technical students an increased understanding of information systems and systems development as a modeling, design, and construction activity. Course study and assignments are structured around a major text, and use of various computer tools such as the Internet in developing assignments.

Prerequisites: Work in some aspect of computer information systems or an introductory course such as Computer Information Systems, or computer programming. Access to a computer and an Internet provider is required.

Additional Prerequisites: Students must obtain permission from the Information Systems Course Development Manager before enrolling in this course. Students are required to e-mail Joe.Little@esc.edu with a phone number at which they may be contacted during business hours before enrollment in this course. Accepted students can expect to be interviewed or surveyed about their experience upon completion of the course. The student should have a basic knowledge of the World Wide Web, including access to an Internet provider, proficiency with a web browser and possess word processing skills.
