Description: Explore Child Care as a career option. This two credit introductory course explores the history of child care as a profession, the history of child care credentialing, child care ethics, and an overview of competencies needed for excellence as a child care professional.

The course is intended to be a part of the "Exploring the professions" sequence in educational planning as well as serving as an introduction to the series of courses needed for the NYS Children's Program Administrator Credential.

Note: This course is offered in both an introductory and advanced form. Only one version of the course can be taken as a part of a degree plan. The assignments in the introductory course require a descriptive understanding of the child care field while the assignments in the advanced course require the student to analyze, synthesize, and apply the concepts in a child care setting. Those with experience in child-care should probably take the advanced version of the course.
