Description: World Art from 1400 to the Present covers artworks in historical context while recognizing that there is no single history of all art. We will study artworks to understand what the artist made, to think about why and how it was made, to consider its historical context and to consider any cross-cultural aspects that may be reflected in the work. You will develop your ability to look at artworks with an understanding of their potential meanings as well as your ability to research works of interest to you. We will study European and North American art; Asian, African, and Oceanic art; and the art of the Americas. There is no prerequisite for this course.
