Description: Study and apply the fundamental concepts and methods of data analysis, including both descriptive and inferential statistics. Includes arranging data, tables and graphs, measures of central tendency and dispersion, regression analysis, correlation, sampling, significance testing, Chi-square tests, and analysis of variance. Includes the use of technology based tools commonly used by researchers (a graphing calculator or statistical software) to assist in summarizing and interpreting data and information. Understand how to evaluate which statistical analyses are appropriate for a given set of data.

Lab activities can be conducted with items readily available around the home.

Recommended: Facility with arithmetic and basic algebra, and a basic ability to use either a computer or graphing calculator, including the ability to install the appropriate software and describe any troubles encountered.

This course fully meets the general education requirement in Mathematics.

Note: November Term 2004 is the last term this course will be offered in print version. In future terms, it will be offered fully online as 272384 or in a special web-enhanced version that maintains the print guide content online plus limited discussion attendance requirements so students can proceed more at their own pace. This version is available as sections SL3 and SL6 only. Students have a choice of the regular sections or the special sections, depending on their learning habits.
