NOTE: This is a new course that will be offered in the fall of 2011
This upper level course is intended for students of Psychology, Human Development, Health Services, Family/Gender Studies, Community and Human Services, and Nursing as well as others who are interested in the study of chronic illness. The course will overview: the history of chronic illness; the psychological, physiological and social aspects of chronic illness; as well as the assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment of chronic illness from several theoretical orientations. Students will be exposed to information and perspectives regarding the individual, family, and social implications of chronic illness. This information contributes directly to programs in Human Development, Community and Human Services, and Nursing.

Prerequisites: Introduction to psychology and Human Development or demonstration of equivalent knowledge.
