Description: Examine in depth the nature, causes and control of juvenile delinquency. Evaluate the major theories of the causes of delinquency, focusing on sociological theories. Explore the juvenile justice system, its aims, actors and processes. Analyze current programs and policies directed at the prevention, treatment and control of delinquency.

Prerequisite skills and knowledge: The student should have an understanding of the structure and functions of the various parts of the criminal justice system and the relationship of federal, state and local criminal-justice agencies, such as might be learned in a course in Introduction to Criminal Justice.
