Description: This course provides an overview of the conceptual and theoretical aspects of leadership within the context of the healthcare delivery system. Students in the course will examine different models of leadership and develop an understanding of the key differences between leadership and management. Selected leadership theories will be analyzed with an emphasis on implications for culture, quality, patient safety, and human resource management in a variety of healthcare settings.

NOTE: Students are advised not to take both the Managerial Leadership and Leadership in Healthcare courses as there is overlap in content. It is strongly recommended that students in Business, Management and Economics area of study take the Managerial Leadership course instead of the Leadership in Healthcare course. Please consult with your mentor for specific concentration needs.

Prerequisites: U.S. Health Systems or the instructor's permission

NOTE: This course is offered for 8 weeks in the SU1 term only

Students obtaining Federal Direct loans: If you are only taking 8 week courses during the Summer term your student loans may be reduced or cancelled. Please visit our Web site at www.esc.edu/FinancialServices for more information.
