Description: Qualitative social science research utilizes inductive approaches to explore and understand human behaviors, social interactions, and the construction of social reality. This course examines the ways social scientists ethically formulate questions, collect and analyze data, and present their findings. Students will apply this knowledge by writing a formal research proposal, conducting fieldwork, using visual and/or narrative analysis.

Prerequisites: At least one introductory course in the discipline of a social science concentration.

Note: Students may receive credit for EITHER Survey for Social Science Research Methods OR Qualitative Research: Design and Methods.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Social Sciences.

Important Note: This course was renamed effective the September 2014 term and was formerly offered as Qualitative Research: Design and Methods. Students who have successfully completed 284534 should not enroll in this course.
