Course Description:


Study the psychological, sociological, and criminal factors of arson. Identify profiles of arsonists, pyromaniacs, and fire setters. Includes fire propagation and development, incendiary fire susceptibility, motivation, detection, and constitutional issues affecting fire investigation. The roles of insurance, legislative initiative, data analysis, and protection techniques are also covered.

Prerequisites: Previous study in Fire Prevention, Organization and Management or equivalent, introductory work in arson detection and investigation, and advanced fire training and experience.

Recommended: Academic or practical background in psychology, chemistry, and/or photography, College Writing (121624), Advanced Fire Administration (164014), Fire Related Human Behavior (164054).
