Using Microsoft Access, learn how to create a simple normalized relational database and develop an appropriate user interface and reports. Satisfy client requirements and create appropriate solutions for the problems defined. Students will then be able to develop a desktop database and understand the context of enterprise-level solutions and be prepared for upper-level study in database systems.
This course is designed for the non-IS professional who wishes to gain an understanding of databases and create a desktop database solution.
Prerequisites: Microcomputer Applications or have the equivalent background. Students will be expected to have taken a lower-level writing course or have demonstrated the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and recognize the importance of good communication. Students will need to be able to install and use standard office software, preferably have been exposed to Microsoft Access, must have access to a computer on which they can develop a Microsoft access database, and be able to use a compression utility.
