Course Description:

Examine telephony systems, services, technology and management as they exist in today's corporate environments. Additionally, the course will look at upcoming technologies that are merging the telephony services with the data communications world and how these can be implemented to meet today's business needs. Topics covered include: switching systems, analog and digital networks, multiplexing techniques, transmission standards, the local loop, PBXs and key systems and traffic considerations.

This course will be useful for those in telecommunications management or those who will deal with telephony communications in their current or future work environment. It is not at the engineering level, but at the practical applications level for those who will come to manage, operate, or be associated with voice communications systems. Although no specific prior courses with technology or engineering are required, practical experiences with voice systems or electronics is helpful. This course does assume student skills with reading, research, analysis and synthesis are commensurate for upper-level coursework.
