Course Description:

Examine data communications concepts, security, and management as they pertain to today's corporate environments. Topics covered include: network applications; data transmission and hardware; local, wide, and metropolitan area network topologies and management; backbone networks; network design and implementation; and network security. The course is not at the engineering or theory level, but at the practical applications level for those who will come to manage, use, or be associated with data communications.

Students enrolling in this course should have a basic knowledge of electronic communication systems as gathered from work experience, college work, or self-learning, and an interest in exploring an exploding and dynamic field. Knowledge of voice transmission systems would be a plus, but is not required.
