Undertake a comparative examination of the public policy responsibilities and innovations of state and local governments. Learn the structure and operations of state and local political institutions and the nature and character of citizen participation in state and local government and politics. Focus on the "devolution" of policy responsibilities and fiscal authority from the federal government to the states and localities as well as the growing influence of PACs, interest groups and the media on the political process. Opportunities are available for specialized study of public policy areas.
