Description: Explore the history of women and the family in the United States. Examine differences in the way historical events and circumstances have affected men and women, and the structure of relationships between men and women and within families. Investigate the diversity of women's experiences, including differences in cultural background and socioeconomic status. This course meets the general education requirement in American History only for students scoring above 84 on the New York State Regents exam in United States History and Government.

Included in the 6 credit version of the course is an in-depth study of the period up to 1870 using additional print and audio materials developed by Annenberg.

Prerequisite: Previous study in U.S. history and/or politics.
