Description: Examine the impact of building construction and materials on fire development, and the impact of uncontrolled fire on structural integrity as measured by the fire's effect on structural members, materials, and assemblies. Address the measurement of fire loads, fire testing, fire endurance ratings; behavior of inorganic materials in fire; the design of fire protection for structural steel, surface, and corridor flame spread; smoke toxicity; and fire gases. Includes detection systems, smoke control systems, hydraulic analysis, pump design, sprinkler systems and design, and a comparison of extinguishing systems.

Recommended: Previous study in Business Mathematics, Statistics, Algebra, College Writing, Introduction to Computer Programming: BASIC (171954), or equivalents, and knowledge of building construction, engineering, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
