Course Description:


In this course students will learn about the ancient foundations of political theory and political science, with an emphasis on the two giants of ancient political thought: Plato and Aristotle. Students will study some of the most famous and influential ideas in the history of Western thought, including: the Philosopher-King, the allegory of the cave, the idea that "man is a political animal", the Golden Mean, Plato’s Forms, and the nature of justice.

Although there is a text for the course available at the college bookstore, students will likely be able to find free electronic versions of the required readings.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Western Civilization.
