Description: This upper level course is intended for students in Human Development (Development, Psychology and Social Studies), Family Studies, Community and Human Services, and Health Services, as well as others who are interested in the study of aging (including AARP students). The course includes: aging as part of the human life cycle and of family life; biological, developmental, and psychological aspects of aging; an examination of aging in various cultures; changing views of aging in the United States; how aging affects different segments of our diverse population, including men and women; death and bereavement; health and support services for the aging; and social policy issues. This course will expose students to information and perspectives on aging from across the disciplines that contribute to the study of human development; including Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services and Health.

Note to NYS Nursing Home Administrator Certificate Students: this course fulfills the requirement in Gerontology.

Prerequisite: Human Development or equivalent.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Social Sciences.
