Description: This course is a survey of neurophysiological systems and how they affect mood, thinking, and behavior. This area of study is an integral part of modern psychology, and is an increasingly important area of study in the field of psychology. This course will focus on basic concepts of neuroscience and how brain mechanisms mediate sensation, motivation, emotion, learning, and abnormal behavior. Students will be introduced to the cellular components of the central and peripheral nervous systems, neurotransmitters, and cellular communication, then will apply these concepts to the study of behavior.

Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to Psychology OR General Psychology is required. Prior completion of a course on Human Biology, General Biology, or Anatomy and Physiology is strongly recommended.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Natural Sciences.

NOTE: This course was previously offered as Behavioral Neuroscience: Introductory. Students, who completed 282274, cannot take Brain and Behavior.
