Description: Rates of female (girls and women) offending and incarceration have greatly exceeded those of males (boys and men) in recent years. This course explores relatively recent research on socioeconomic and demographic patterns of female offending and the treatment of females in the criminal justice system as offenders, victims, professionals and inmates.

Prerequisite knowledge: Students who enroll in this course should have a knowledge of the components of the criminal justice system, such as might be learned in an introductory course in criminal justice, and understanding of the theories of criminal behavior, such as might be studied in courses in criminology or social deviance.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Social Sciences.
