Course Description:


Explore the principles, institutions and processes of American government and politics. Gain an understanding of the structure and operation of U.S. government and political systems; a recognition of the avenues available to individuals and groups for effective political involvement; an appreciation of the role of the media in influencing politics and public policy; detailed comprehension of key decision making and implementing political institutions with particular attention to the budgetary process; an introductory working knowledge of the public policy process and policy area substance; and a foundation for advanced study in public affairs, public policy and public administration.

This course fully meets the general education requirement in Social Sciences.

NOTE: This course was previously offered as The American Political System: An Introduction to American Government. Students, who completed 261204, cannot take this course.
