Course Description:
This is an upper-level course intended for anyone who is interested in policy analysis and/or political and social change. In group discussions and learning activities, students gain a broad understanding of theories and analytic models used in the development of social policy and how social policy applies to particular sectors of social and public life.

Students explore how general government policies impact the quality of American life. Students select a specific policy issue they are interested in, apply two different methods to analyze how the policies related to their issue were developed and implemented as well as how they affect their target populations. Finally, students develop strategies for implementing positive policy change. Students enrolling in this course should have completed the equivalent of three years of college studies and possess a solid upper level background in the concepts, theories and practices of their chosen concentration. For human services students, especially those in human services management and/or advocacy, this course is considered a capstone offering as it unites various concepts learned throughout the human services curriculum.
