Description: Explore the structure and function of the human nervous system to understand sensory perception; movement and coordination; regulation of thirst, hunger, temperature; sleep and dreams; pain management; emotions; cognition; psychiatric disorders and the effects of drugs on the nervous system and on behavior. Build on knowledge of underlying themes and concepts of basic biology such as molecular and cellular structure, genetics and evolution. Interpret scientific literature and research as well as acquire the fundamental concepts of neurobiology relevant to contemporary issues in health and human behavior.

Prerequisites: prior college biology is required (e.g., Human Biology, General Biology or Anatomy and Physiology). In addition, strong writing and research skills are absolutely necessary for the successful completion of this advanced-level course.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Natural Sciences.
