Description: The focus of this introductory course is on the application and use of statistics, rather than the detailed complexity of the underlying mathematics. Study and apply the fundamental concepts and methods of data analysis, including both descriptive and inferential statistics, including arranging data, tables and graphs, measures of central tendency and dispersion, regression analysis, correlation, sampling, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. The student will make use of technology based tools (Excel, StatCrunch) to assist in summarizing, interpreting, and communicating with data.

The primary audience for this course is students who need an introductory statistics course.
Prior to enrolling in this course, student should have excellent algebraic skills, the ability to install the appropriate software, and the ability to clearly articulate any troubles encountered in such installations.

At least one semester of undergraduate mathematics is strongly recommended, at a minimum college level algebra or higher.

This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Mathematics.

TECHNOLOGY OPTIONS
For this study of statistics, you will be expected to use the computer to solve a good number of the assigned problems. The text does use rather large datasets, so it would be very time consuming to try to solve these problems without one.
