Special Instructions for Purchasing Course Materials for:
172384 Statistics: An Activity Based Approach (4 cr.)
Technology Choice
For this study of statistics, you will be expected to use only ONE of the following choices to solve a good number of the assigned problems: Computer software (Excel), recommended, or a graphing calculator. The text does use rather large datasets, so it would be very time consuming to try to solve these problems without one of the choices.

Your choices are:

1. Computer Software (Excel): If you do not have Excel software on your computer, it can be purchased through computer and office supply stores in your area and through online vendors. If you already have other spreadsheet software, you may use it but your instructor may not be able to support it.

2. Graphing Calculator: The bookstore has in stock the TI-83. Choose this option if you value portability and are able to read small print. If you already have a graphing calculator, you may use it, but your tutor will not be able to help you learn it and the Course Guide instructions are specific only to the TI-83. A regular calculator, even scientific, will not be sufficient.

If you choose the Graphing Calculator, then you must also purchase this book:

Neal, David. TI-83 Guide to Basic Practical Statistics, Edition 2. W.H. Freeman
