Discussion Board: Non-Traditional Higher Education and Organizational Learning and Culture

As I proposed in a presentation recently:

Non-traditional organizations of higher learning are experiencing an evolving culture change that is not necessarily of their own choosing. According to Edgar Schein (1992), a leading expert in this area, organizational culture is:

a pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group [organization] learned as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration, that has worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore, to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those problems.

Question: How is the culture of non-traditional institutions changing in response to the “problems of external adaptation and internal integration?” Are we being pro-active and creative in the ways we respond? Are we becoming more traditional? Are we communicating with each other?
