What is a Graduate Learning Contract?
Rather than completely set syllabi, at Empire the faculty often offer studies that have a beginning or general structure of activities of which the details are worked out in dialog between the students and their mentors. I offer open-structure studies from the Web in a variety of topics for Master's level students, including Material Culture, VIsual Studies, Cultural Criticism, and Multiculturalism (this last study includes an all day Saturday conference in Rochester, NY in February). A Learning Contract at Empire includes the topic, number of credits, some broad expectations about learning demonstration or products from the student, and the methods and criteria by which these will be evaluated.
