PRACTICUM IN HUMAN SERVICES (CHS-254064)
Course Description: The objective of this upper level course is for each student to apply and integrate the concepts, principals, and skills learned in prior upper level scholarly activities to the actual practice of human service delivery in a host agency. The focus is to ensure the student is a competent, Bachelor's level human service professional. The course discussions and written assignments integrated text readings with the actual application of skills in the field. The instructor and site supervisor provide guidance, feedback and supervision to the student throughout the course as the student applies prior and current learning to actual situations and work activities in a human service organization. The student is responsible for finding a suitable placement, the college does not arrange or find placements for students. Students are encouraged to begin searching for placements for their practicum well in advance of the term in which they will do their internship. Students must complete 90 hours in their practicum placement during the term of study. Students participate in discussions and are responsible for several written essays and written case study assignments during the semester. Students are responsible for completing appendices containing relevant data about the placement and obtaining written evaluations from the site supervisor. Important Note: This course replaced Counseling Theory Practicum (254054) effective the September 2008 term. This online course is offered through Online Learning.
