Business Management and Economics

As a business owner and management executive for more than 30 years, I am extremely interested in utilizing my experience to provide a valuable and meaningful business education for students. My teaching philosophy combines the "real world" with business academics, and I utilize case study, business articles, and my own examples to supplement the theories and principles of my courses. My scholarly interests continue in the field of Work and Occupations, the subject of my Master's thesis. Currently I am doing research in the areas of "Hard Rock Miners: An Occupational Genealogy" and "Maple Sugaring As An Entrepreneurial Venture".

I have a B.S. in Business Administration with a Management major from Babson College, and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies in Work and Occupations from Skidmore College. Most recently I was CFO and co-owner of Tarrant Manufacturing Co., Inc., a family-owned business specializing in the manufacture of highway maintenance equipment. I have also held positions in marketing and advertising in General Electric’s Plastics and Silicones Division. Currently I am a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Capital District Human Resource Association and the American Marketing Association as well as serving as a SCORE volunteer advisor to small business. My college teaching experience includes both on-line and traditional classroom courses in Business Principles, Marketing, E-commerce, Labor Relations, Management, and Human Resource Management.
